Dance has a deep rooted history and has always been a powerful form of expression. Using one’s body to convey meaning captivates an audience, allowing viewers to connect with the emotions portrayed. The article this magazine is designed around is “The Impoverishment of American Culture,” by Dana Gioia. She touches on the idea that art and entertainment are in their own category separate from today’s popular culture.
I wanted the magazine spreads to mimic the fluidity in dance and convey movement using imagery to guide the reader through the story. For the series of covers I wanted to keep that motion while also paying homage to the publication name, Blunt, by disrupting the imagery.
